Bio
Jonathan Moody wears a lot of bowties in the music industry, literally and figuratively. No matter the variety of venue or job description, Jon’s work ethic and attention to detail are consistent.
As a sideman, Jon is a chameleon, blending his signature voice on the bass (fretted, fretless or electric-upright) to whatever style or group he is playing in. That’s why his musical resume boasts a large number of studio sessions (in studio and remote), over 100 musical theatre productions, and a vast amount of gigs in genres ranging from rock to Motown to kirtan to folk. Jon has been featured on such websites as Bass Musician Magazine, No Treble and NS Design, and was one of the musicians in the 2012 “Are You Next?” campaign from Notion Music.
2016 saw Jon add “solo artist” to the list with the release of “Music for our Hands,” a 7-song EP that highlights the compositional skills and technical foundation that has made Jon one of the most in-demand musicians in the SW Michigan – and outlying – areas. Released in June, the album received rave reviews from many online magazines.
Jon is also a regular contributor to online magazine Bass Musician Magazine, focusing on equipment reviews, color commentary, and the various aspects of musicianship, on and off the stage. He has been approached by a number of artists as a resource for online marketing and social media to help expand their following. Jon has also helped create Endorsing Artist programs for Tsunami Cables and Wing Bass.
Currently residing in Kalamazoo, Jon is a freelance musician in the West Michigan area, still playing for whoever asks first. Jon can be heard at Unity Church of Kalamazoo every Sunday, supporting the occasional singer/songwriter, or at any of the theatres in town depending on their season.
